Tips on how to Enjoy Eating Out While on a Weight Loss Diet
A Recipe for Disaster?
Eating out doesn’t have to be a diet disaster yet
many people worry that dinning out
while on a weight loss diet will cause diet mayhem and send them back into their
old overweight lifestyle. The
following tips will provide some insight into how to make wise decisions and not
worry about counting calories when trying to
enjoy a nice meal out of the house.
Firstly, most mainstream U.S. restaurants have single dishes with large enough
portions for two people. As such, share a meal or have the discipline to only
eat half and take the rest home.
Secondly, make wise decisions about what to order. Typically, there are many
options on a menu to choose from, therefore, try and choose an item like a
salad, fish or lean meat. If one of the items comes with a creamy or high-fat
sauce, ask for it on the side so you can control how much sauce you consume.
Thirdly, don’t order a 3-course meal. This suggestion will benefit your
waistline and your wallet. Ordering an appetizer, entrée and dessert is
unnecessary and provides more opportunity to fall off the diet bandwagon when
eating out. Try and practice a little restraint and just have an entrée. If you
must have another course, choose an appetizer rather than dessert, as desserts
typically contain unnecessary calories.
Fourthly, try your hardest to completely skip dessert. If you must finish the
meal with something sweet order herbal tea or decaf coffee and use a teaspoon of
sugar. If that doesn’t satisfy your craving then try eating a small piece of
chocolate. Eating a small piece of chocolate will likely satisfy your sweet
craving as well as save you from the calories you would have consumed in a large
dessert.
Fifthly, try to order water as your main beverage. This may sound like a crazy suggestion but
most drinks are full of empty calories. Water is nourishing, healthy and won’t
send your calorie count into outer space. If you’re feeling like it’s impossible
to just drink water, ask for a lemon or lime on the side. It’s incredible how
one little slice citrus can vastly enhance the taste
of good-old water.
Keep these little suggestions in mind the next time you go out to eat. Although
they may require a shift in the way you normally order your meal, they’ll allow
you to eat out without worrying too much about gaining weight.
