Will I Always be Hungry on the South Beach Diet?
Yummy in my Tummy
It’s no lie that people are often excruciatingly hungry in the beginning stages
of low carb diets, and the south beach diet
is no exception. However, this weight loss
system does endorse eating filling snacks and meals which help to curb the
initial sense of hunger associated with this
high protein diet.
Although the sense of being full that many carbs provide is short-lived, it’s a
feeling we’ve become accustomed to. There’s no question that carbohydrates are
an essential part of our diets, however, with the proliferation of our fast food
culture, it’s possible that we have come to depend on them a little too much.
It’s not abnormal for someone to look back on what they ate in a day and realize
every meal or snack consisted primarily of carbs. The point is, we are so used
to grabbing carbs as a quick fix, that eating less of them will provide an
initial sense of hunger because other food groups don’t expand in your stomach
to the same extent as carbs.
With this in mind, how does someone curb the initial hunger pains associated
with starting a carb-conscious diet? First, take advantage of the meals and
snacks. Don’t skip the afternoon snack to try and accelerate weight loss, but
embrace a snack of mixed nuts, laughing cow cheese or cottage cheese and tomato
so you can remain focused and not think about your hunger.
Second, drink lots of water. Although this seems like an elementary suggestion,
water is both filling and essential. According to dietitians, people often
mistake their thirst for hunger, as such, they eat when they don’t need to.
Third, look at other low carbohydrate-focused online weight loss programs for
tips on meals that you'll find satisfying and filling. Use the resources; they
are there for your information and support.
