Overweight Women and Healthy Dieting
A Different Perspective
If it isn’t bad enough having to look at stick-thin, unrealistic and false
representations of health in the media, people assume that overweight women are
not into healthy dieting or fitness
because of their size. Yet, there are many overweight women who watch what they
eat, observe a diet consistent with
weigh loss and nutrition and still can’t shed significant pounds.
The fact is, some women just have slow metabolisms or other physiological reasons why they
may be a little larger than what society would consider a normal size (whatever
that is). Because our society has come to embrace thinness as the ultimate beauty ideal, many women don’t live up
to this false projection of health. Therefore, they constantly feel
inadequate and discouraged in reaching their goals.
Many women with slower metabolisms eat well and exercise regularly –yet because
most people tend to equate health with thinness, people would never know. What’s
more is that there have been multiple studies conducted about a correlation
between being overweight and diseases like type-2 diabetes and heart disease;
yet where does this leave the overweight women who eats healthily and exercises
regularly?
Ultimately, it seems as though what’s most important is following a healthy
lifestyle by eating nutritious and moderately-sized meals and doing regular
activity. Doing all you can do to be healthy provides a great feeling of
accomplishment and acceptance that you’re doing all you can do to serve your
health both on the inside and the outside.
