Just Another Trend? The Low Carbohydrate Diet as it Relates to Weight Loss Management and a Healthy Diet.
Listen to Your Heart
Despite its current fame, the low carbohydrate diet may be just another trend we
look back on and ask ourselves: "why?" Although
low carb diets aid with
weight loss management they are not
widely praised as healthy diet trend by
dietitians. So why the continued rise in popularity?
Trends take time to catch on, and go in cycles. Now, because there are so
many companies depending on this diet craze, it will take awhile for the water
to settle and diet equilibrium to set in. Despite the taunting from the media,
restaurants and weight loss products to buy low-carb
alternatives, this essential part of our diets should neither be forgotten nor
ignored.
Who knew that low carb diets were a matter
of the heart? Well, apparently they are. The American Heart Association has
articulated concern for the low carb/high protein diet due to the associated levels of high
saturated fat and cholesterol which are said to increase the risk of heart disease in those
who pursue the diet long-term.
Weight loss programs based on moderation
and healthy eating principals may result in slower, more study weight loss,
but provide a better long-term solution to the weight loss conundrum. Let
the faint sound of your heart remind you of the importance of eating a balanced,
heart healthy diet. Both your waist and your heart will be grateful.
