Promises, Promises…Lose Weight Fast with Quick Weight Loss Diets
Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Many quick weight loss diets promise you’ll lose
weight fast; and if their zany ways are followed, it is possible
to quickly shed pounds. But this is not an example of
successful weight loss
because losing weight too quickly can cause health problems. According to
dietitians, the best weight loss diets involve losing 1
pound a week. Slow and steady is the name of the game when it comes to dieting.
North America tends to idealize the notion that faster is better due to our
immediate gratification society. Just look at the cars people gravitate to:
Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini -all extremely fast and sporty cars. We
value speed we expect things to happen quickly. Therefore, when it comes to
dieting we want to experience fast weight
loss to satisfy our desire for immediate results.
Our bodies don’t work this way which is part of the reason why people get
discouraged with dieting. Given that weight loss is a slow and steady process
–other than potentially losing more weight per week in the beginning of a diet,
we want to give up before our bodies even have the chance to get somewhere.
The moral of the story is: slow down and be patient with dieting and your body’s
weight loss. Just like the tale of the Tortoise and the Hare, the tortoise ends
up winning the race.
