Healthy Heart Diet Hints and Tips for Weight Loss Foods
Tips and Hints for the Heart
Some people engage in a healthy heart diet to try and prevent heart disease,
whereas others eat for their heart because they have heart disease. Regardless
of the camp you’re in, it’s important to always discuss any
healthy dieting changes with your
physician. And if you haven’t already done so, try and see if they have a
specialized eating plan to help lose weight. With that said, there are some
weight loss foods which are helpful for a heart healthy diet.
The goal of a heart healthy diet is to lower or control cholesterol levels
through limiting the amount and type of fat consumed.
• In the meat family, stick to lean meats such as skinless chicken and fish.
• Try making the main component of meals based on brown rice or whole wheat
pasta and vegetables rather than red meats. Add lean meats and fish in smaller
portions.
• Greatly limit the amount of sauces, dressings, and oils in your cooking and
eating. Most of these items contain high cholesterol.
• Use healthy methods to prepare your meals such as: broiling, baking, roasting,
poaching, steaming, sautéing, stir-frying or microwaving.
• Cut the fat. Even lean meats have visible fat before they are cooked. Help
your weight and your heart by trimming off as much visible fat as you can see
before cooking.
• Limit use of egg yolks. Instead, try purchasing eggs whites from the store.
• Use low fat or skim dairy products instead of fatty milks, creams, cheese,
yogurt and the like.
• Last but not least, make sure vegetables and fruits comprise a large part of your
diet. For cues on how many servings, consult your doctor or specially formulated
eating plan.
