A Diet Supplement May Seem Safe, but is it the Best Weight Loss?
Scratching the Surface
Before scratching the surface of what a diet supplement is, it would be best to
define supplements and how they relate to
effective weight loss.
Diet
supplements can come in many different forms but to boil the subject down to its
simplest form, there are two camps: good supplements and bad supplements.
Neither produces the best weight loss on their own and both should be considered
very carefully.
A weight loss supplement can be defined as anything which is taken in addition
to one’s weight loss regime that is meant to help lose more weight. The problem
is, some diets have incorporated supplements in such a way that replaces regular
meals. This may produce easy weight loss
results but does not help one’s health over the long
run.
Good supplements are weight loss aids like
diet shakes and bars. These products
are fine to mix up the foods one eats once and awhile, but when taken daily can
be expensive. In addition, if you take diet
supplements like these everyday as an essential –even meal-replacing part of
your diet, think how hard it will be to keep this program going for years to
come. Think of what you’ll do on vacations or on holidays...
Bad supplements are items like herbal or non-herbal pills. Although they may
promise to help lose weight, suppress appetites and perform diet miracles, they
are best avoided given the amount of controversy and cases which have arisen
with heart and stroke ramifications.
As a parting word of caution, no matter what
weight loss product you may be considering or using, it’s best to read all
the ingredients thoroughly and always consult your doctor.
