8 Diet Holiday Hints for Weight Control
Surrounded by Goodies
Ever feel like you’re drowning in a sea of goodies during the holiday season?
Over the holidays,
Weight control is hard enough to maintain for those
who aren't even dieting, but if you're on a weight loss management
program,
holiday
dieting can be a real challenge. Although, not all hope is lost, gain these diet
holiday hints to lose weight!
1) Don’t set yourself up for disaster. If you’re going to a party in the
evening, don’t starve yourself all day in order to save room for indulging at night.
Eating mega calories in the evening will do nothing to help your weight loss, and
starving yourself in the day will only make you more hungry. Instead, take a
balanced approach to eating by having light yet nutritious meals in the day and a few
little bites at night.
2) Choose how much before you go. Before you leave for a party or dinner event,
decide what and how much you'll eat beforehand. By mentally preparing for
the event first, you’ll walk in knowing your limits.
3) Stay away from the food table. Don’t choose to talk to other party-goers at
or near the food table. Steer clear of this area and the temptation to nibble
won’t be as strong.
4) Always carry a glass of mineral water. Low-cal sparkling water will do
three things for you: keep you hydrated, fill you up and keep one of your hands
from wandering to the cheese plate.
5) Limit your high calorie intake by filling up on healthy foods such as fruits and
veggies, lean meats, low fat dairy and whole grains.
6) Serve yourself. If you’re at a dinner party, ask to serve yourself and
strategically choose the low calorie items.
7) Carry a survival pack. If you’re about to brave the mall or hit
the town for some last-minute shopping, pack a healthy survival kit consisting
of water, fruit, veggies, seeds and a low-cal granola bar. This will keep you
from stopping for an unhealthy snack and make sure you get enough nutrition to
keep going.
8) Don’t forget about your body. Remember that regular activity is important all
year round, so make time for it -even during the busy holiday season.
