Atkins Diet Food Products for a Low Carbohydrate High Protein Diet
The Quintessential Things
If you’re on the Atkins Diet or considering
it, you’ve probably noticed (or will notice) that your grocery bills have gone
up by a significant margin. Essentially, a low
carbohydrate diet means you're engaged in a
high
protein diet because few carbs equals lots of protein. With Atkins diet food
products widely available in the grocery store and online, what are the
quintessential items?
The first item is fruits and veggies. Atkins suggests eating two to three cups
of a vast array of vegetables including cucumber, many lettuces, peppers and
others
per day . On the fruit front, berries are the most ‘acceptable’ fruit as they
contain fewer carbs than their citrus counterparts.
The amount of meat and eggs the Atkins diet allows is a brunch-lover’s dream come true.
Eating fish, poultry, red meat , etc… are all acceptable under Atkins’ dietary
direction. To make sure you always have these items on-hand, stock your fridge full of
meats and eggs. Because these items are expensive, shop in bulk as meats,
alternatives and eggs can keep for a long time in the fridge or freezer.
Because sugar isn’t a central component of
the Atkins diet, it’s suggested that
everyone keep a box of splenda in their cupboard. This will curb the sugar
cravings for the times when a little sweetness is needed to perk up your baking
or provide a little pick-me-up for your
taste buds.
Finally, for the lovers of good cheeses, Atkins allows 3 to 4 ounces daily. On
the Atkins diet you no longer have to shy away from the cheese aisle. You can now linger there and let
yourself be tempted by the likes of swiss, cheddar and gouda.
